When I first shopped for high chairs, I assumed there were a few top brands. In fact, there are more and more brands which cut the mustard and give the baby a good retain and have all the needed items you'd expect.

Most population are well-known with Graco, Peg Perego, Stokke, Evenflo, Fisher-Price, and Eddie Bauer. These are some of the major brand names in this market...because these names also shop a wide collection of other baby and house products like bottles, co-sleepers, and strollers. Combi, Baby Trend, Chicco, Svan, Kolcraft and Zooper also specialize in baby high chairs.

At the low end, you are finding at spending at least for a functional chair. Having a hand-me-down from friends or house is a free option, and actually no harm in saving money and going that route. But at that end of the spectrum, you're only going to get a plastic seat that's fairly uncomfortable for baby unless you add padding or blankets. Plus a metal frame and a tray. Adjustments to these types of models will be very limited. But it's actually sufficient for feeding and holding a baby for meals.

One thing about some of the cheaper brands is that you have to watch out for the extended frame dimensions. Some stick out and could actually be a qoute for a busy parent walking colse to the side and tripping. Or even kicking it accidentally and then potentially knocking over the whole unit. Why not avoid that entirely if you can. There's sufficient to keep you busy without thinking about such details.

As you move up the capability high chair ladder, you'll simply see capability components, more features, and more general comfort for the child. There will be finer wood and craftsmanship in all the details of the chair, not guaranteed but more likely. Some have a wider collection of cloth seat options that are actually washable or wipe down. Any of the chairs morph into items that go beyond a suitable highchair like turning into a desk chair or a rocking chair. Others appeal to a match with the rest of your home's furnishings. These therefore have a much longer practical lifespan.

Talk with others who've had feel with some chairs, go and ask good questions with store staff, and check out as much as you can. The more informed you are, the wiser you will be and the good you can make an study selection.
